Warts on Hands – an Unsightly Problem

Warts on Hands
There are a variety of different skin growths and blemishes that cause many problems for the people who have them. Moles and skin tags and warts can all have their drawbacks, as even the most harmless of these skin abnormalities can eventually become more than an aesthetic irritant. Bleeding, itching, and even pain can accompany these skin growths on occasion, making their removal a matter of serious concern for those who suffer from the condition. One example of a skin growth that poses no health danger is the common wart, which often manifests as warts on hands.
Warts on hands, like warts on feet, legs, and everywhere else, are harmless skin abnormalities resulting from the human Papilloma virus. The virus, when contracted, causes cells on the outer part of the skin to multiple faster than usual, which results in a spike in growth. Warts on hands are not dangerous from a health standpoint, and will often disappear without treatment if you leave them alone. Since they are caused by a virus, however, even allowing them to go away of their own accord is no guarantee that they will not return within a few weeks or months. Because of that, many people with warts on their hands seek treatment for them.
Because warts on the hands most often occur with small children and teenagers, there are serious issues of self-consciousness and embarrassment that must be considered by any parent. If your child has warts on his hands, chances are that he will be too ashamed to even go to school. While it might be tempting to resort to a lengthy home remedy process, or to simply hope that the virus runs its course, the mental and emotional health issues involved make it preferable to seek treatment as soon as the condition is discovered. In addition, treating the warts will help to avoid them spreading from one part of the body to another, or from person to person.
One of the most basic of treatments for warts on hands is to use salicylic acid to dissolve the warts. There are also topical ointments and creams that gradually reduce the size of your warts over several weeks until they eventually disappear altogether. An even cheaper alternative treatment involves duct tape placed over the warts. Over time, the tape is believed to cut off the wart from the body and allow it to fall away naturally.
Neither patience nor alternative treatments always work to remove warts on hands, however. There are times when warts are simply too persistent and require medical treatment by your physician. Your doctor will generally begin with the least invasive treatments, moving on to more complex treatment methods only if the simple ones fail.
The options available to your doctor range from cryotherapeutic freezing to removal with scissors and laser surgery. The most severe and persistent cases of warts on hands involve things like immunotherapy and various injections designed to attack the HPV virus directly. The process of getting rid of stubborn wart conditions can often be frustrating, but try to persevere. With time and patience, your doctor can usually help you to eliminate the warts on your hands.

I had a wart on my hand (first ever) and I used the duct tape method to remove it. I've never had another wart on my hands after that, however, I've had plantar warts on my feet that I had been treating with various over-the-counter methods including the freezing solution and they never completely went away. Finally, I went back to the duct tape and added a drop of the salicylic acid. Applying this daily and using a callous file to file away the dead skin around the wart finally yielded the results I was looking for.
